BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FAU softball team took a 2-0 win over SIUE on Tuesday. The Owls improved to 11-13 on the season, while the Cougars dropped to 6-10 with the loss.
Gabby Sacco threw a complete game shutout to lead the Owls in the circle. The freshman right-hander went the distance and allowed only three hits, all of which were singles, to power the Owls to the win. She struck out six and walked only one to improve to 6-3 on the season. She now leads FAU with a 2.04 ERA.
Zoey Jones bolted a solo home run to right center field in the bottom of the second inning to break an early 0-0 tie. The homer was Jones' first of the season and fifth of her career.
As Sacco continued to keep the SIUE offense at bay,
Riley Ennis recorded a pinch-hit RBI double in the fifth inning to stretch the lead to 2-0. Ennis came up with a runner on first and two out and ripped one to left field to score
Sara Berthiaume and double up the Owl lead.
Cammeo Presutti went 2-3 at the leadoff spot in the lineup. Berthiaume recorded her fourth triple of the year, going 1-1 with the run scored and two walks.
Olivia Peterson and
Sommer Baker recorded the other two hits for the Owls.
The Owls will return to action for the Conference USA opener this weekend. FAU is set to face Louisiana Tech in a three-game series at home, starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
