BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team, ranked No. 60 nationally, moved to 13-4 overall, with a 4-3 win over Conference USA foe and match host Old Dominion, on Friday.
It was the Owls second road win in three days, and the win gives FAU its second win over a C-USA opponent.
The FAU doubles team of Carles/Sarrio and
Hunter Robbins, ranked No. 79 nationally, captured their match followed by the FAU duo of
Kevin Huempfner and
Filip Krolo, on courts one and two, respectively, to clinch the first point of the match.
Host ODU, ranked No. 56 nationally, would push and eventually come from behind to tie the match at 3-3, with the match on court two yet to be completed. That match was in its third set after seeing senior
Carles Sarrio take the first set 7-5. Sarrio would drop the second set 6-2 forcing a third and final set to determine both court two and the matches' winner. Ultimately, the Owls would secure the win, but not in a fashion they would have preferred, with the third and deciding set being determined by an injury to ODU's player, who was up 5-4 in the final set.
