Day One Results
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The FAU men's swimming and diving team started off strong at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday.
In day one of the four-day championship meet, two Owls became individual conference champions in
Alec Peckmann and
Timo Paisley, while
Nick Shaffer set an FAU freshman record. As a team, FAU sits in second place with 183 points, just 20 back of Incarnate Word who sits in first with 203.
Paisley kicked off the evening session with his first collegiate conference title in the 500 free. The freshman touched the wall at 4:26.97 with a strong finish, as he trailed Alvarra Ibarra of UIW but pulled away down the home stretch. Paisley swam to a 4:28.49 in the morning session, which was the top time of the prelims in the 500 free.
Peckmann cruised to the gold medal in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 1:47.31, which was two seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Peckmann wins his second consecutive CCSA title in the 200-IM with tonight's first-place victory.
Shaffer wound up on the podium in third place alongside Peckmann in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.31. That time is good for an FAU freshman record, and Shaffer just edged out his former best time of 1:49.83 in tonight's race.
Peter Tanner, Jr. earned the bronze medal to land on the podium in the 50-free as he clocked in at 20.27.
The Owls will rest up and return to the pool for day two tomorrow, with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. The CCSA Championships are hosted by Liberty University.
