BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swim & dive teams will send six swimmers to the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open, set to take place from Nov. 30 – Dec. 3 in Greensboro, North Carolina. These select Owls, who will first compete on Thursday, Dec. 1, will be facing off against swimmers from other schools as well as some of the top athletes from national teams around the world.
For the international swimmers, it will offer them a chance to qualify for the national team from their home country. In total, the six FAU athletes are comprised from four different countries: Egypt, Great Britain, Italy, and the United States.
Thursday
- Rateb Hussein (Cairo, Egypt): Men's 50 free
- Roberta Circi (Rome, Italy): Women's 200 IM
Friday
- Hussein: Men's 100 fly
- Timo Paisley (San Clemente, Calif.): Men's 200 free
- Amelia Robertson (Whitley Bay, England): Women's 100 back
- Dalton Lillibridge (Marshalltown, Iowa): Men's 100 breast
Saturday
- Robertson: Women's 200 back
- Hussein: Men's 100 free
- Lillibridge: Men's 200 breast
- Dolores Margni (Busto Arsizo, Italy): Women's 200 fly
Men
- The Owls are coming off of a fantastic showing at their midseason Patriot Invitational. The men's side finished in first place out of six teams with 1,128 points
- Paisley was the top performer among the swimmers, with first place finishes in the 200 free (1:38.34), 500 free (4:28.66), and 1650 free (15:36.43)
- Lillibridge set the FAU record in the 200 breast with a time of 1:58.45
- Alec Peckmann won the 200 IM (1:47.91)
- Christoffer Weiss tallied first in the 200 fly (1:48.35)
- David Arneskov swam to first place in the 400 IM (3:53.44)
- On the diving board, Brandon Shepherd made his mark finishing second in the 3-meter dive finals with a score of 276.45 and second in the 1-meter dive preliminaries with a score of 273.70. For his efforts, he was named the CCSA Diver of the Week for the third time this season
- The Owls set school relay records in the 400 free (2:57.36), 400 medley (3:14.20), and the 200 medley (1:28.97)
Women
- The women's side also had a strong weekend, finishing in second out of seven teams with 874 points
- Riley Trout was the winner of the 400 IM (4:25.50), while Circi was right behind finishing in second (4:26.68)
- Robertson swam to third place in the 100 back (55.04)
- Margni placed second in the 200 fly (2:01.33)
- Alicia Mora finished in second place on the 1-meter dive with a score of 280.65
