BOCA RATON, Fla. – It took five and a half hours, including a nearly two hours for the light showers to leave the Boca Raton area, for the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team to pick up their fourth win of the season. The Owls downed the visiting Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 4-3 to improve to 4-0 on the 2022 season and 1-0 at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.

The match was moved from a 1 p.m. scheduled start to a 10 a.m. first serve, as an attempt to avoid anticipated bad weather. Just 12 minutes into the doubles matches, play was suspended and did not restart until noon.

The Eagles secured the doubles point before the two teams then moved into singles play. FAU's Finn Stodder captured his match 6-1, 6-2, on court six, to even the match at 1-1. The two teams traded points and were tied at 3-3, setting up the exciting finale on court two, where Kevin Huempfner clinched the match for the Owls with a 6-4, 7-5 win.

The Owls celebrated by hosting a mini-clinic/skills session with boys and girls who worked the match as ball kids.

"Great team win today. I am proud of our boys for finding a way to win. Today wasn't pretty by any means, but we managed to stay composed and play tough in the big moments. We will get back to work and improve in many areas of our games. Shout out to Finn [Stodder] and Gerard [Escandell] for taking care of business and staying focused the entire way."
