BOCA RATON, Fla. – Murray State scored the night's lone goal midway through the first overtime to turn away Florida Atlantic University women's soccer Friday night, 1-0.
Â
The Beginning
Neither team dented the back of the net in the first half, with a pretty even 4-3 shot tally, in favor of FAU (1-3-1).
Â
The Turning Point:
The Owls doubled the Racers (3-1-0) in attempts in the second half, 10-5, but were unable to score. That included a Sammy Vitols shot off the crossbar in the 83rd minute.
Â
The Finish:
MSU was able to get the win on a scrum in the box just over five minutes into the first overtime, originating off a set piece, and eventually to the right side of goal.
Â
Notables:
"When you have as many corner kicks and pretty good numbers in possession, it's another frustrating loss," said head coach Patrick Baker. "I told the girls I was supposed to have something brilliant to say, but I just couldn't find words. Give them credit, (Murray State) only had three or four subs, they were feeling it, and we just couldn't capitalize on our opportunities. We had our moments, let it go to overtime and golden goal, they found a way and we didn't."
