BOCA RATON, Fla.  – The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams commenced the 2021 fall slate despite being delayed an hour due to lightening in the area of the race site. Both teams started out the season racing the 5K at South County Regional Park Wednesday night. On the women's side, the team finished fourth with
Casey O'Connor leading the way with a 16th place showing (19:21.59). The men were led by
Preston Dunn who crossed the finish line in 18th (16:40.00).

Women (5K)
- The Owls finished fourth out of 10 teams with 109Â points
- O'Connor recorded 16th place to lead the Owls with a time of 19:23.90, which was also a personal record in her first cross country race since the 2019 FAU Invitational
- Senior Sharp followed in 18th with a time of 19:28.40
- Jordan Stevens finished in 20th (19:34)
- Freshman Erin Shannon completed the race just outside the top-20 with 22nd place (19:35.16)

Men (5K)
- FAU placed fifth out of seven teams with 149 points
- Dunn's finish in 16:40.00 resulted in a personal record and 18th-place finish
- Jericho Cooey was the next Owl to cross the finish line in 32nd place in 17:22.00, another personal record
- Freshman Bodey Miller recorded a 17:24.00 finish for 35th place
- Rory Carmody registered a 40th place showing (17:55.00)

The men's and women's team will head to Tallahassee, Florida for the Florida State Invite on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 a.m.
