BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team has announced the hiring of Georgette Nixon as an assistant coach. Nixon will lead the sprinters and jumpers while complementing head cross country/track & field coach
Alex Smolka and company.
"We are excited and very pleased to add a colleague of Georgette's caliber to our coaching staff," said Smolka. "Coach Nixon brings great experience at the conference and national level to our program. As a coach, as well as a former student-athlete, she's a winner! We believe Georgette's leadership and mentorship will be critical to the success of our women's program. She is a great addition to our Owl family!"
Nixon joins FAU after a four-year stint as the assistant men's and women's track and field coach at her alma mater, Southern Connecticut State University. She is a two-time USTFCCCA East Region Assistant Coach of the Year, earning the honor in 2019 and most recently in 2021. Focusing on coaching the sprinters and hurdlers, Nixon has mentored 11 NCAA provisional qualifiers and 10 NCAA All-Americans.
Additionally, Nixon has coached athletes that contributed to 89 of the Fighting Owls' winning total of 301.5 points at the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This past season, her student-athletes were ranked No. 1 in the East Region in four individual events and two relays.

Nixon enjoyed a rewarding career at SCSU as a five-time All-American and 2015 NCAA Division II Champion in the 4x400-meter relay. Additionally, Nixon is a six-time New England Champion, seven-time Northeast-10 Champion and a USTFCCCA All-New England Region honoree. At the end of her collegiate career, Nixon set three SCSU school records and holds spots on the all-time program top-10 lists in seven events.
The Naugatuck, Connecticut native received a Bachelor of Science in marketing with a minor in communications from Southern Connecticut State in 2017. She also is USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning certified, as of August 2018.
