BATON ROUGE, La.  – Inclement weather and poor course conditions forced the NCAA to cancel its Baton Rouge Regional, an event Florida Atlantic University's
Justine Fournand was slated to compete in, on Wednesday. The tournament was originally scheduled to run Monday through Wednesday, but incessant rain prevented play from starting.
"The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee regrets that the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships regional in Baton Rouge could not be conducted as scheduled this week," the NCAA's statement reads. "The University Club has taken on over seven inches of rain in the past several days. The Division I Women's Golf Committee, NCAA staff and the Games Committee in Baton Rouge have been in constant communication throughout the past several days about the course conditions that have led to this unprecedented and most difficult decision."
Per the committee's policy, the originally-seeded top-six teams and top-three individuals will advance to the National Championships. Fournand, Golfweek's 51
st-ranked player, is not among the advancing group.
The 2021 season was one to remember for Fournand despite its finish. The sophomore from France became the first FAU player to record an under-par stroke average, won Conference USA Golfer of the Year, earned three medalist honors and became the second player in program history to make an NCAA Regional. "Justine had an amazing season," FAU coach
Aimee Neff said. "She did everything I could ask for as a coach and never stopped working to be better. She is a joy to coach and work with. Her determination, effort and eagerness to learn are unparalleled. She has helped put our program on the national map during her freshman and sophomore seasons! I can't wait to see the ways she will continue to mature and develop. Juju is the total package!"
