Third-Set Magic Sparks 2-0 Start At FSU Event

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 13^th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team won both its games in nail-bating fashion on Day One of the FSU Unconquered Invitational, defeating No. 17 Stetson and UNF by a score of 3-2 apiece. FAU coach Capri Grotowski also claimed her 100th career win on the day.

In both wins, FAU (15-7) went to three sets for the final point. Jillienne Cangelosi and Kaila Dorish sealed the win against Stetson, while Savannah Pesante and Maylin Bouffard – who've won six straight matchups, including five in two sets – did so against UNF.

The Owls have now won three straight with a chance to make it five on Saturday, the second and final day of FSU's event.

Match One vs. No. 17 Stetson
FAU's Court Four (Pesante/ Bouffard) and Five (Courtney Moon/Abby Jackson) pairs continued their recent dominance, sweeping both their matchups. This game marked the Pesante/Bouffard pair's fifth-straight two-set win and the Moon/Jackson pair's fourth two-set win in their last five matchups. Cangelosi and Dorish came through when it mattered most, delivering their team a victory with a three-set win over Stetson's Court Three pair.

Match Two vs. UNF
Moon and Jackson played a thrilling game on Court Five, outlasting UNF's pair with a 26-24 second set to claim their fifth sweep in their last six games. Cangelosi and Dorish won handily on Court Three, improving their record to 2-0 on the day. The game came down to Pesante and Bouffard, though, and they strongly answered the challenge by grabbing their sixth-straight victory.

The Owls will finish the Unconquered Invitational on Saturday with matchups against Coastal Carolina at 10:15 a.m. and FIU at 2 p.m. A win against FIU would be the Owls' third straight in the series.
