BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University's
Justine Fournand has won Conference USA's Golfer of the Year and first-team All-Conference honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Fournand is the third FAU player to earn conference Golfer of the Year honors and the first to do so in C-USA. Last season, Fournand won C-USA Freshman of the Year and second-team All-Conference honors.
"I could not be happier for Justine as she has earned this recognition by testament of her skill, work ethic, attitude and openness to growth," FAU coach
Aimee Neff said. "She pushes herself and her teammates to be better each day and I am a better coach because of her. This is a great day for not only Justine but our women's golf program! Go Owls!"
The 2021 season saw the sophomore Fournand strengthen an already incredible résumé. Fournand won two tournaments, the
Low Country Intercollegiate and
Brickyard Collegiate, and the according weeks' C-USA Golfer of the Week awards. Counting her win in a season-opening
dual match against Ohio State, Fournand has four career victories, tied with Nicole Navarro for the second most in program history. Â
Fournand posted a program-record 71.67 stroke average this season, the first sub-72 average in team history and a 1.33-point improvement from her then-record 72.90 from 2019-20. This season she also set program records in Par 3 (3.0526), Par 4 (4.0406) and Par 5 (4.7764) scoring in addition to posting 54 birdies, the fourth most by any individual in team history.
The France native posted four sub-70 rounds this season, including the second-best round in program history: a 67 in Round 2 of the Low Country Intercollegiate. Her 11 par-or-better rounds from 2021 fell one short of FAU's single-season high, despite Fournand playing seven less rounds than the current record holder, Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn in 2006-07. Fournand added an eagle this year, moving her first in program history with four all-time.
An essential component to her team's ascension, Fournand helped the Owls secure a program-record 299.06 stroke average in 2021, the first sub-300 stroke average in team history.
