HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team won the Low Country Intercollegiate at Bear Creek and shattered its record book while doing so.
Aimee Neff earned her second victory as the Owls' coach, tying her for the second-most in program history with Mary Guadagnino. A second career individual victory from
Justine Fournand moved her to fifth in FAU history.
"It was awesome to win as a team and have the individual champion, too!" Neff said. "[Justine] and Rosa [Barnak] led the way today. Justine played very solid golf from the start of the tournament and capped it off with three birdies to close the final round. She earned this win and continues to mature as a leader for us on and off the course.
Rosa Barnak played terrific with a clean score card of 14 pars and four birdies."
Fournand, the tournament winner, led the Owls (578) with a two-round 136.
Rosa Barnak (144) finished just behind Fournand at No. 2, and
Kacey Walker tied for 10
th with a 148.
Blanka Decker (152) and
Olivia Bergner (157) finished 22
nd and 34
th, respectively.
FAU posted a 287 in the second round, the fourth-lowest round in program history. Its first-round 291 tied for the eight-best round all-time. The team's +2 36-hole total was the third-best in program history.
Fournand carded a 67 in Round 2, tying her career low and is the second-best in program history. Her 69 in Round 1 is tied for her third-lowest score personally and is the seventh-best all-time. The -8 36-hole total Fournand posted is the second-best in program history, and she owns the No. 1 slot (2019 FAU Pat Bradley Invitational, -9).
Barnak's 68 in Round 2 was a career best and is tied for the fifth-lowest in program history. Her even 36-hole total is tied with Fournand for the ninth-best in program history.
The surging Owls have only one tournament remaining before the Conference USA Championships: The Mercer-hosted Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Georgia. That tournament will take place April 5-6, with the C-USA Championships beginning two weeks after.
"We have more in the tank and look forward to building off this win in the coming weeks!" Neff said. "Go Owls!"
