BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University softball (8-23, 3-5 Conference USA) will travel to Huntington, West Virginia where they are scheduled to face Marshall (12-7 overall and 1-3 in C-USA play) this weekend for a four-game set, beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
Series History
The series stands at 11-8 Marshall. The last meeting the Owls fell to the Thundering Herd 8-0 on March 5. While the Owls are 7-2 versus Marshall at home, they are 1-7 in Huntington.
Outstanding Performances
- Senior Kara Lokeinsky has appeared in 10 games, all in relief. In her last three outings, she has not surrendered a run. She tossed three scoreless versus Coastal Carolina, three scoreless versus South Dakota and 2.2 versus Charlotte. Se has scattered just six hits in that time span
- Maya Amm moved into the lineup's No. 4 spot for the last six games. She is hitting .312 in that role and was hitting .242 previously. More impressively, Amm was splitting time between shortstop and second base, but in recent weeks she has been a defensive juggernaut at second base. She has committed just two errors in 94 chances, which is increased comparably due to her rangeÂ
- Senior catcher Kaitlyn Burke is more than just a backstop. She leads the squad with three home runs and has a team-high 12 RBIÂ
- Building the right lineup - more than any other season FAU has looked for the right combination and have sought the best hitters for the lineup. In total, 22 Owls have made a plate appearance. One player who has made the best of each opportunity is freshman Jalynn Ford. She has 14 plate appearances and is batting .357 with five hits a double, a homer and five RBIÂ
- The Owls have stolen 25 bases and have been caught just five times. Kaitlyn Cunningham leads the way with four steals in six attemptsÂ
National Leaders
- As a team, the Owls are ranked No. 8 nationally in doubles, averaging 0.55 per game, and No. 27 in triples, averaging 0.32 per game  Â
- Individually, freshman Cunningham is ranked No. 4 nationally with five triples and is No. 3 in triples per game at 0.17, while sophomore Sara Berthiaume stands in at No. 64 with 0.11 per game
