WALLACE, N.C. – For a 10th-consecutive tournament,
Justine Fournand became Florida Atlantic University golf's top finisher. Fournand carded a three-round 218 at the River Landing Classic, a two-day tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington.
The Owls posted a three-round 882 as a team to finish ninth among the 13-team field.
In Round One, FAU enjoyed a strong start thanks to 72s from Fournand,
Rosa Barnak and
Blanka Decker. Fournand (218), Barnak (227) and Decker (226) eventually placed 16
th, 44
th and 43
rd, respectively.
Newcomers
Olivia Bergner and
Kacey Walker showed flashes of their own. After scoring a 71 in Round One, Bergner (221) carded consecutive 73s in Round Two and Three to tie for 33
rd. Walker (224) posted a 73 and 74 in Rounds Three and Four, respectively, to tie for 39
th.
FAU will remain in the Carolinas for its next tournament, the Low Country Intercollegiate at Bear Creek. The two-day, Wofford-hosted event will run March 13-14 in Hilton Head, S.C.
"We had some good stretches of golf but did not play our best and know we are capable of playing better golf from start to finish," FAU coach
Aimee Neff said. "We look to bounce back quickly in a few days at Hilton Head."
