BIRMINGHAM, ALA.  – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team finished the first of two nights at the 2021 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday. FAU registered four points on the first night, while earning five spots to finals, which will take place tomorrow afternoon at the Birmingham Crossplex.

"I am very excited with our first day," said head coach
Alex Smolka. "We picked up right where we left off at Clemson. We had PRs, made finals, scored some points and showed great effort and grit! I'm looking forward to us finishing our indoor season off strong tomorrow. We are excited for what is ahead!"

- Cara Simpson had a busy day, and will have an even fuller day tomorrow, as she quailed for finals in two events. She placed third in the 200m dash with a personal record of 24.81 and sixth in the 60m dash prelims (7.65)
- Jessica Lambert (2:14.76) and Marisha Thompson (2:16.83) both punched their tickets to the 800m run finals, finishing fourth and eighth, respectively
- Thompson also earned a spot to finals in the mile after taking seventh with a time of 5:04.10. Lauren Macon finished the race in 13th (5:14.46)
- Alliyah Allwood captured 13th in the 60m dash (7.80) in her first race as an Owl
- In the long jump, Ameion Hamlet led the Owls with a 17th-place showing (5.32m) in her first meet collegiate meet
- Kailiece Harris logged 10th in the pentathlon (2648)
- Roshelle Francois finished 18th in the 400m dash (1:00.48)
- Madlen Kappeler helped the Owls tally their first points of the weekend in the 5000m run. She finished in seventh (17;35.74). Morgan Sharp took 13th (1819.62)
- The distance medley relay team of Casey O'Connor, Madison King, Anaiis Scheeres and Paige Saiz brought the Owls two points with a seventh-place finish. The team's time of 12:18.39 is the 10th best time in program history

The Owls will take on finals tomorrow with field events beginning at 11 a.m. (EST) and final running events beginning at 1 p.m. (EST).
