Â
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team lifts the lid on the 2021 campaign with a away/home split set against nationally-ranked UCF. The Owls and Knights will play on Friday in Orlando, then wrap up the series at FAU Baseball Stadium with Saturday night and Sunday afternoon affairs.
UPDATE: Single-game tickets for Saturday and Sunday at FAU Baseball Stadium are SOLD OUT.
Â
The Owls return to action on Friday for the first time in nearly a year – 346 days to be exact – since shutting out Penn at home on March 10, 2020. The following day, just hours prior to the finale against the Quakers, the Ivy League season was canceled, and five days after that, Conference USA followed suit.

Owls' 2020 in Review
The Owls finished the shortened season with a 10-6 record. The team started out the season 7-0 before embarking on one of the toughest stretches in program history, five games in six days, all against opponents ranked in the top 10 nationally. FAU ended that week with a convincing 11-2 win over No. 6 Miami, and the season with the aforementioned shutout of Ivy League favorite Penn.
Â
Conference USA coaches selected FAU first in the East Division, and
Bobby Morgensen (outfield) and
Mitchell Hartigan (utility) to the Preseason All-C-USA team. Head coach
John McCormack returns for his 13th season as head coach and 31st with the program.
Â
Owls' Weekend in Preview
UCF began the 2020 season with a 15-3 record and were ranked as high as No. 12 nationally at the close of the year. In this preseason, the Knights are No. 24 by Baseball America and No. 25 by Perfect Game, among four national rankings (No. 28 by NCBWA, No. 30 by Collegiate Baseball, as well as receiving votes in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll.).
Â
In the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, UCF was selected second behind East Carolina. Knights tabbed to the preseason All-AAC team were starting pitcher Colton Gordon and reliever Jack Sinclair.
