BOCA RATON, Fla.  – The Florida Atlantic University track & field team has released their schedule for the upcoming 2022 indoor season. The slate totals four regular season meets, all competed out of state, followed by the 2022 Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championship in February.

Alex Smolka is in his 22nd year leading the FAU cross country and track & field programs, and is excited for another opportunity to make some noise at the C-USA Championship.

"I'm very happy that our 2022 season is about to start," Smolka said. "There's a lot of excitement amongst the team, and we're looking forward to seeing all our new team members compete in Owl uniforms for the first time!"
The opening two meets on the docket for the Owls will serve as a sneak peek of the C-USA Indoor Championship, all of which will be hosted by UAB. The two regular season meets will take place January 14 and 15, beginning with the Blazer Invitational on Friday followed by the Vulcan Invitational on Saturday.

Following a week off, the Owls will travel to South Carolina for the Bob Pollack Invitational hosted by Clemson, a two-day event from January 28-29.

A quick turnaround follows for FAU, who will then head to the snowy northeast for a pair of meets. The first, the Crimson Elite hosted by Harvard, will take place on Friday, Feb. 4, with the BU Scarlet & White hosted by Boston University to follow on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The Owls will then have two weeks to prepare for the the C-USA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19-20.

Georgette Nixon has seen a "great shift in culture" over the past year, and offered her perspective on the team's preparation and training.
"New beginnings, new goals! I'm very encouraged by this group of women and I definitely believe the program is heading in the right direction," Nixon said. "Preseason training has been great, and they constantly surprise themselves throughout training and our Red vs. Blue time trials. The #WinningInParadise mindset is being established. Go Owls!"
