Owls' Week in Review
The Owls (6-4) capped their 26-day homestand with a 84-63 win last Wednesday over Palm Beach Atlantic. Michael Forrest led the Owls for the fifth time this season with 21 points, going up and over 20 for the fourth time. He's seventh in Conference USA in scoring at 16.2 points per night, and is tied for the league lead at 28 total 3-pointers made (25th in DI) and 3.2 per game (31st). And for his career, he is now third in 3-pointers made, at 198, and 11 points away from passing Raymond Taylor in career points (1,027 to 1,037) to move into 10th place all-time.
Â
Coming off a five-assist, zero-turnover performance – and 16 against just three in his last three games – Bryan Greenlee is now the league's top playmaker as far as assist/turnover ratio, at 2.6. That's No. 48 in the country. He is tied for seventh in C-USA at 4.3 assists per game.
Â
As a team, the Owls lead the conference in rebounding margin (+7.4) and assist/TO ratio (+1.33). Those marks put them 38th and 52nd, respectively, in NCAA. Here are some other team conference and national rankings:
VCU also comes in with a 6-4 mark. The Owls' four losses have come by a combined 18 points, while the Rams had two games in the Bahamas where they played ranked opponents down to the wire: 69-61 to then-No. 6 Baylor, and a 73-60 overtime loss to No. 22 UConn. The Rams lead all Division I teams by limiting their opposition to 24.1% shooting from 3-point range, and are eighth nationally in field goal percentage defense (36.5%), 14th in scoring defense (57.8 ppg), 15th in blocks per game (6.0) and 20th in turnovers forced (17.9 per game).
Â
In the preseason Atlantic 10 poll, coaches and media tabbed the Rams fourth, and Vince Williams, Jr. merited Preseason All-A-10 honors. He has started all 10 games, averaging 11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds a night. Sophomore guard Ace Baldwin just returned from injury to score 24 points and record 10 steals over the last two games.
Â

VCU has won all three outings between the two schools, in a three-year stretch from 2000 to 2002. The last matchup was Dec. 5, 2002, in Richmond, won by the Rams, 90-72.
