Owls Stymied by Tough VCU Defense

RICHMOND, Va. – The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak snapped on the road Wednesday night, 66-46, by VCU at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
Â
"Hats off to VCU, they were very, very physical. They played hard, they played to their identity. This team for us, as a program, we're still searching for our (identity). The physicality bothered us – the pressing and the trapping – (and) for us to turn the ball over as many times as we did in the first half and to only be down six was a credit to how hard our guys were competing despite how poorly we were playing. The second half, we cut it to one, and it was almost like we took a deep breath of relief … and (VCU), doing what they do, they ran it down our throat and got a couple of easy baskets. And I thought that moment and swing was very pivotal."

Â
The Beginning
VCU (7-4) held FAU (6-5) without a field goal for the first 6:47. Still, late in the first, an 8-0 run by the Owls cut the deficit down to four, 19-15, at the 4:46 mark.Â
The Turning Point
FAU was down 26-20 at the break, and quickly scored the first five out of the locker room to cut it to one; VCU responded with seven straight of their own, in what would eventually be a 13-4 run heading to the first second half media timeout.Â
The Finish
VCU never saw their lead again dip below double digits in taking the home win.Â

- Alijah Martin was the only Owl in double digits in scoring, with 13
- Bryan Greenlee had four of the team's 12 steals
