Owls Set to Battle 49ers in Conference USA First Round Game

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will make its seventh consecutive postseason appearance on Nov. 1. The Owls will take on Charlotte in one of two first round games of Conference USA Championship Tournament. Match time is set for 7 p.m. on Monday night.
FAU will serve as the host for the entire conference tournament. The action begins Monday at 4:30 p.m. with UTSA and North Texas.
How We Got Here
The Owls put forward a 6-6-4 record in the regular season, including a 4-2-2 mark in C-USA play. A three-match winning streak in October propelled FAU from 1-1-2 in conference action to postseason contention. FAU is the fourth seed in the C-USA East, while Charlotte is the five seed.
FAU vs. Charlotte's Regular Season Meeting
The Owls and 49ers battled to a 1-1 draw on Sept. 26. FAU was trailing late in the game, yet Miracle Porter notched the game up with the equalizer in the 78th minute. Porter leads the Owls in scoring with five goals this year, which also ties her for seventh in the conference.
FAU holds the upper hand in this head-to-head matchup with a 4-2-2 record against Charlotte dating back to the 2013 season. Charlotte's last win in this series came on Oct. 8, 2017.
Cohen Holding Strong in Net
FAU freshman goalkeeper Amit Cohen owns a goals against average of .867, which is good for fourth in Conference USA. Cohen has recorded 63 saves to also rank fourth in the conference in that category. She has played every second this season for FAU.
Southern Miss Awaits the Winner
The winner of Monday's game between FAU and Charlotte will face the west's top-seed, Southern Miss. That quarterfinal will be the last one of a quadruple header on Nov. 3, with the action beginning at 11 a.m.
