TUCSON, Ariz. – Florida Atlantic University men's tennis was upended on the road Saturday evening by Arizona.
Notables:
- Doubles was a hard-fought battle, but Arizona (4-1) recorded the point
- After winning on No. 3, the other two courts came down to extra points, but the Wildcats took the slim edge on both. Maxime Lapraille and Filip Krolo fell on No. 1, 7-5, and Alvaro Fernandez Horta and Kevin Huempfner on No. 2, 7-6 (7-5)
- The Owls (1-3) were unable to sustain that momentum into singles, with the order of finish being 1, 3 and 2 to clinch the match, followed literally seconds later by No. 4. Court 6 wasn't long after that
- On No. 5, Gerard Escandell, after losing the first set, came back to force a third. In a 10-point tiebreaker, the Wildcats would eventually prevail (6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8))
Quotable
Head Coach
Ricardo Gonzalez:
"Very disappointing loss. Coming out flat and with no sense of urgency in singles in unacceptable. We are better than this. Arizona has a very good team and did a very good job overall so credit to them on their performance today."
