Football’s Matt Hayball Named to Ray Guy Watch List

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Matt Hayball, a sophomore punter on the Florida Atlantic University football team, has been named to the 2020 Ray Guy watch list, as announced through Twitter by the Augusta Sports Council.
In his redshirt freshman campaign, Hayball tallied 68 punts for a total of 2,958 yards, an average of 43.60 yards per punt. His longest boot was for 77 yards, and nearly one-third of his punts were downed inside the 20, while just four were touchbacks. The West Adelaide, Australia native began his collegiate career with nine punts in each of his first two games averaging 43.5 per punt. The squad then settled into its offensive scheme, allowing Hayball to showcase his ability to move fluidly through various punt styles, keep opponents off-balance, and place the ball to the Owls' best defensive advantage.
The Ray Guy Award is bestowed annually to college football's most outstanding punter as adjudged by the Augusta Sports Council. It is named after punter Ray Guy, an All-American who played for fellow Conference USA member Southern Miss and later became an All-Pro member of the National Football League, playing for the Oakland Raiders
