BOCA RATON, Fla. – The incoming class of new Florida Atlantic University women's soccer players has now reached double digits, with the addition of University of Kentucky transfer Hunter Koziara on Friday. The native of Delray Beach returns to the Sunshine State after a year with the Wildcats and becomes the 10th Owl newcomer for the 2020 season.
Koziara played her high school soccer for Atlantic Community High School, and club for Boca United ECNL and South Florida United DA. As a freshman at UK, she started 17 of 18 matches on the backline, totaling 1,512 minutes, including the entirety of 11 of those appearances. The 5-9 defender picked up her first collegiate assist in a home match against Auburn. She excelled off the field as well, with a 4.0 GPA while being a member of the Honor Roll and Dean's List.
Those academic achievements track with her high school accolades, graduating from the ACHS IB program with a 4.0 GPA, while being part of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National Social Studies Honor Society and Hispanic National Honor Society. For the Eagles' soccer team, she was twice All-Conference; for the cross country team, twice MVP; and she was named as her high school's Most Athletic Senior.
Why Koziara chose FAU:
"I am so excited to be attending Florida Atlantic University and looking forward to the upcoming season," said Koziara. "It feels great to return home and play for Coach Baker in my beautiful state. The FAU women's soccer program has been excellent the past few years and hopefully we can continue to keep winning championships with this amazing team! I'm so grateful to be a part of such an incredible environment at FAU and can't wait to see what the future holds for me in Paradise. Go Owls!"
Baker on Koziara:
"We are very excited to have Hunter join the FAU women's soccer program," said head coach
Patrick Baker. "She is a talented student-athlete and will be a valuable addition to our back four. Hunter is a tall, athletic defender that plays both side of the ball extremely well. She is a tough 1v1 defender, good tackler and strong in the air. Her first-year knowledge at the University of Kentucky and competing for a year in the SEC has provided valuable experiences for her that will help our team overall. Offensively she has a great comfort level on the ball and connects out of the back very well. We enjoyed watching Hunter as a talented player in the state of Florida and excited to have return to the Sunshine State. She loves to compete and we like her mentality when she plays. Hunter will be a wonderful addition to our defensive group."
Along with Koziara, the class of 10 newcomers is made up of these previously-announced Owls: forward
