BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University men's tennis head coach
Ricardo Gonzalez has added three newcomers for the 2020-21 season, two natives of Germany with Division I experience, along with another international true freshman. Kevin Huempfner, who played the last two seasons at the University of Kentucky, and Finn Stodder, just finishing up his first year at the University of Tennessee, will come to Boca Raton for the fall, and each will have multiple years of eligibility remaining. They will be joined by freshman Nicolas Jadoun, a native of Dakar, Senegal, who played at a tennis academy in France.
Here is more about the three newcomers:
Kevin Huempfner – 6-0 / 160 – Neckartailfingen, Germany – Gymnasium Nechartenlingen / Kentucky
Huempfner totaled 25 singles wins, and 16 more in doubles, in his two seasons with the Wildcats. He went 20-14 his freshman year in singles, and had played as high as No. 3 this spring, with five more victories. He also had a 7-2 doubles mark in 2020. In Germany, he is ranked No. 138 in the national men's tennis rankings, along with a UTR of 13.0. He has multiple juniors and men's titles in his home country on his resume, plus back-to-back Wuerttemberg Team Club championships. Additionally at UK, he was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Huempfner on FAU: "I am really excited for another great opportunity at a big and successful school like FAU. I am looking forward to being part of the team and to get to work in Boca Raton. It's a beautiful university and I appreciate everything that the FAU coaches have done to make this possible. Excited to meet my new teammates, go Owls!🦉"
Gonzalez on Huempfner: "Kevin strikes me as a very organized kid who is well balanced in life. I am excited to see how Kevin's game will continue to develop. He has great potential and has proven that he can play at the highest level while he has had many quality wins in the SEC and in Germany. I am excited to get the opportunity to work with him and I am confident that his best days are yet to come."

Nicolas Jadoun – 6-1 / 156 – Dakar, Senegal – Mouratoglou Tennis Academy (Biot, France)
Jadoun, with a UTR of 12.42 and an ITF ranking of 518, has a 16-4 singles record in 2020. He has totaled three ITF singles titles, including the ITF World Tennis Tour J5 Dakar Tournament last October, and a doubles title as well. Previously, he took home the championship of Le Chambon Sur Lignon in 2018. At Mouratoglou, he earned the distinction of being the best player at the academy at the beginning of the season.
Gonzalez on Jadoun: "Nico is very much under the radar. While he did not play as many junior ITF tournaments, he has many quality wins that proves that the kid can play. He has very powerful groundstrokes and plays an aggressive game style. I am excited to continue to mold his game and his person. I think he will impress a lot of us."
Finn Stodder – 6-0 / 163 – Berlin, Germany – Poelchau Oberschule / Tennessee
Stodder's shortened freshman campaign with the Volunteers saw him pick up two straight-set singles wins (6-1, 6-2 over The Citadel at No. 6; 6-1-, 6-1 over Austin Peay at No. 5), and compete in one doubles match. His UTR is 12.7, with a high fall freshman ranking of No. 112, while holding a top-15 ranking in German juniors. Four times, he won the Berlin Vice championship, and twice made it to the Europe U16 semifinals.
Stodder on FAU: "I am very happy to join the FAU family and give everything I have for the team to achieve great things. I am excited to be a part of the tennis program and the university. Go Owls!"
Gonzalez on Stodder: "To me, Finn seems as if he is a fun and enthusiastic person. I get the sense that he is gritty, fearless, and determined with what he wants in life. Finn has been a top junior player in Germany and has proven that he is capable of playing against anyone. He had many quality wins at Tennessee, and I have no doubt that he will get a lot more at FAU. I can't wait to get to work with him."
