BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University's football team continued preparation for this weekend's Conference USA game, scheduled for noon this Saturday at FAU Stadium versus UTSA.
The Owls (1-1, 1-1 C-USA) holds a 2-0 all-time record versus the Roadrunners (4-3, 2-1 C-USA) and will look to keep their 2020 home record perfect under the direction of first year FAU head coach Willie Taggart.
The game will be carried by STADIUM Network, locally on Fox Sports Sun, and also be broadcasted on Fox Sports South Florida 640 AM.
Taggart's Take
Willie Taggart Opening statement:
"We had a really good practice Tuesday and Wednesday. I really enjoyed practice. Guys came out focused, with a lot of energy and with a sense of urgency. You feel it. You see it in practice, and you see it from the execution that we have gotten throughout practice. Two really good practices so far this week."
How did it feel to get the guys back from quarantine?
"It was just great to get back to some normalcy. You can practice like normal and you don't have to come up with a different way to do it. You can actually do it and get something out of it. It is good to have everybody back out there and have some depth and do a little more than what we have done before and just seeing the guys being excited, being back healthy and excited to be back to help their teammates out."
On being about to play back-to-back weeks:
"It is much needed. We need to be able to play. We haven't been able to play consistently. It is hard to judge a team when you don't play consistent enough to see how you play from week to week. When we get through this week, get to play, it will be great to see back-to-back games. t is unfortunate it has been the way it is. You play one week and then three weeks later you play again, it is kind of tough. Especially when the other team has played four or five games and have gotten the reps. It will be great to get the game in, for all of us."
Sophomore Cornerback "Smoke" Romain Mungin On your defensive takeaways from the Marshall game:
"Me personally, focus on the ball more and try to get picks. The defense did a good job getting three and outs and getting the offense back on the field. [The defense] tries to get as many takeaways as we can to give the offense a chance to score."
How difficult is it to shutdown UTSA that has receivers and a quarterback that can run?
"We have to prepare with a quarterback who runs [in practice]. Once we get a feel for it, it will be easier for us in the game."
Inside the Owls' Burrow
This week, fans will have three opportunities to catch Inside the Owls' Burrow. Host and producer Frank Forte will talk 1-on-1 with head coach Willie Taggart, where the duo will discuss the Owls' outcome versus No. 22/25 Marshall and the upcoming home game versus UTSA. FAU team captain Ahman Ross, a redshirt junior linebacker, will take Owl fans on a tour of the Schmidt Family Center for Academic and Academic Excellence. In the "Pads Off" segment, Forte will introduce graduate student Aaron Young, and the "20 for 20" moment celebrating the Owls' 20th season, will look back at the 2007 New Orleans Bowl victory over Memphis. This week's show will air Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. and will re-air on Friday, Oct. 30 at 9:30 a.m. and again on Saturday at 11 a.m., all on Fox Sports Florida.
