Baseball Completes 2020 Staff with Additions of McGinnis and Lambert

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University baseball is pleased to announce the additions of assistant coach Tristan McGinnis and graduate manager Gunnar Lambert, completing the staff for the upcoming 2020 campaign.

McGinnis will focus his attention on the Owls' pitching staff, while Lambert will fill the team's operations role following the completion of his five-year FAU playing career. The duo replaces Brett Schneider and Brian Thomas, each of which were multi-year staff members. Schneider is now the hitting coach for the Seattle Mariners' academy team in the Dominican Republic, while Thomas is in the midst of his first year as the coordinator for operations for the Ole Miss softball team.

Previously, McGinnis was an assistant coach for his alma matter, Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. The local native of West Palm Beach played at Dwyer High School before moving on to play for Concord. An injury cut his pitching career short, but he became a student assistant, then graduate assistant, and finally the Mountain Lions' pitching coach. This past season, his staff set a CU program record with 369 strikeouts and saw righthander Will Guay become a 24th round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals.

McGinnis will soon be a double alumnus of Concord. He earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration, management (with a pre-law minor) in May of 2018, and he is on track to receive his Master of Arts in health promotion this upcoming May.

Lambert wrapped his playing career this past season as a captain of the Conference USA regular season title-winning Owls' squad. Over his career, he appeared in 157 games, getting on base at a clip of .388, and amassing 18 home runs and 65 RBI. His junior year, he had a 30-game streak successfully reaching base and was a C-USA All-Tournament Team member. Playing both catcher and first base in his career, he finished eighth on the program's all-time list in fielding percentage (.991) and seventh with 935 putouts.

Similarly, Lambert will soon have two degrees, both of his coming from FAU. He graduated in 2018 with a major in health administration and minor in info systems, and is scheduled to receive his Master's in health administration through the acclaimed FAU business program this May.

The two join head coach John McCormack, hitting coach and recruiting coordinator Greg Mamula and pitching coach David Kopp for this upcoming 40th season of FAU baseball. For McCormack, it will be his 12th season atop the program and 30th overall at FAU; Mamula is beginning his fifth season and Kopp his third.
