GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team fell in the squad's matchup with Florida, as they were shut out by the No. 1 Gators on Saturday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
Notables:
- UF (2-0) took the doubles point over the Owls (1-2) due to wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 slots
- That ended the No. 2 match early, which at that point was a close 4-3 encounter for the combination of Filip Krolo and Gerard Escandell
- The Gators, with five ranked players, would go on to take each singles match. Both Yovan Lambros and Escandell each nearly forced a third set, but fell by the same set scores of 6-3, 6-4. Similarly, Alvaro Fernandez Horta threatened to take it to a third as well, but also fell prey to a 6-4 second set
Assistant Coach Matthew Lasprilla:
"Our guys competed much better today. UF was simply the better team and proved why they are the No. 1-ranked team in the nation. We have a very important week of practice ahead of us with two very good teams in ETSU and USF coming to town this coming weekend."
