BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (1-0-0) will host Louisville (1-0-1) on Friday as part of a doubleheader with the women's team at FAU Soccer Stadium. The match will follow the women's match at approximately 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
About The Owls
FAU started out the 2019 season last Friday with a win against then-No. 17 James Madison to start 1-0 for the first time since the 2011 season. The 1-0 victory was also the first shutout in a season opener since the 2002 season.
Redshirt senior Hagay Jalon and the FAU backline earned the shutout against the Dukes and Jalon was honored as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for his five-save performance.
Newcomer Ivan Mykhailenko scored the game-winning goal in his debut with the Owls. Sophomore Andres Macias secured his first career assist on the goal.
About The Cardinals
The Cardinals opened the season with a 2-2 tie against Cleveland State before upsetting No. 9 Kentucky, 3-0. Louisville is currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Junior forward Emil Elveroth was named to the MAC Herman Trophy watch list, which honors the National Player of the Year. Four different Cardinals have scored in 2019. Cherif Dieye leads Louisville in shots with 10 on the year.
As a program, Louisville has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals five times in the last nine seasons and has qualified for the NCAA Tournament 11 of the last 12 years.
