Mykhailenko's Late Goal Propels Owls to 1-0 Win Against #17 James Madison

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team started the 2019 season off on a strong note, taking down No. 17 James Madison, 1-0, on Friday night at FAU Soccer Stadium. Newcomer Ivan Mykhailenko scored the game-winning goal for the Owls and Hagay Jalon earned the shutout.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first half, but FAU held the edge 7-3 in shot production. In the 81st minute, Tom Abrahamsson took a corner kick for the Owls and found Andres Macias in the box. Macias headed the ball towards the goal and Mykhailenko finished the job, heading it past the Dukes' keeper.
Sunday's match against St. Bonaventure has been canceled. The Owls will be back in action on September 6 against No. 14 Louisville at 7:30 p.m. at FAU Soccer Stadium.
