BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team started the 2019 season off on a strong note, taking down No. 17 James Madison, 1-0, on Friday night at FAU Soccer Stadium. Newcomer Ivan Mykhailenko scored the game-winning goal for the Owls and Hagay Jalon earned the shutout.
How It Was Won
Both teams were held scoreless in the first half, but FAU held the edge 7-3 in shot production. In the 81st minute, Tom Abrahamsson took a corner kick for the Owls and found Andres Macias in the box. Macias headed the ball towards the goal and Mykhailenko finished the job, heading it past the Dukes' keeper.
