BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team has bolstered its roster for the 2019-20 season, as head coach
Ricardo Gonzalez is pleased to announce the addition of three newcomers – freshmen
Bryan Kulikov and
Yovan Lambros, and junior transfer
Maxime Lapraille – to the program.
"I am extremely excited to welcome these men to our squad," said Gonzalez. "They all have the type of character that we are looking for in our team and I can wait to get to work with them."
Maxime Lapraille – 5-10 Junior – Ophain, Belgium – Cap International / South Alabama
Lapraille comes to the Owls from South Alabama, and will have two years of eligibility remaining. The Belgian native is ranked No. 56 in his home country ratings and amassed 32 singles wins in two seasons for the Jaguars. That included a 19-6 record as a sophomore, with one coming, ironically, against FAU in a February matchup in the No. 5 slot. This past year, he was also 16-8 in doubles.
Gonzalez on Lapraille: "Maxime is a very solid person all the way around. The kid has high standards and is highly motivated which I like. He will add experience to this team and I can't wait to get to work with him and help Max accomplish his personal goals."
Yovan Lambros – 6-0 Freshman – Jupiter, Florida via Greece – Laurel Springs High School
Lambros was No. 1 in his native country of Greece in under 12's before moving to Florida, in 2012. Once settled in the Sunshine State, he began playing 14's USTA Tournaments, and by 2014, was rated as a Blue Chip Freshman, a top 25 player nationwide. He would be ranked as high as No. 21 in the under 14's category.
Gonzalez on Lambros: "Yovan is a kid who is very much under the radar. He has incredible potential to further develop his game. He is a class-act kid and well-mannered. He is an amazing asset to this team and I can't wait to help him further develop his game."
Bryan Kulikov – 5-8 Freshman – Los Angeles – California STEAM San Bernardino
Kulikov is another five-star recruit that was successful on the west coast, participating in both Boys 18s doubles sectionals and Boys 18s Long Beach Nationals. Nationally, he carried a ranking of No. 45, while rating as high as No. 8 in the state of California.
Gonzalez on Kulikov: "Bryan is another top talent in the country. He carries great positive energy and is highly motivated and determined to be successful. He is a great addition to our program and I can't wait to see his growth over the years."
The trio will join seven returnees from last year's C-USA finalist squad, a relatively young but successful roster that features just two upperclassmen. The fall tournament schedule will soon get underway, with dual matches set to begin in mid-January.
