BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (15-15) took down UAB (11-19) on Sunday following a 7-2 victory over the Blazers. FAU had a season-high 13 hits and
Skylar Whitty pitched her fifth complete game of the season in the series finale.
"They hit well today," said head coach
Joan Joyce. "There is still work to be done, but I hope to get them straightened out and ready for next week, which will be a big weekend series. We didn't have any errors and gave up just two walks, which is also really good."
Â
Key Plays:
The Owls struck first following
Mia Olson's RBI double to right center field to score
Samantha Lageyre. Later in the bottom of the first inning, Olson advanced to home following a wild pitch to put the Owls up, 2-0. The Blazers had an answer in the top of the second inning, thanks to Destini England's double up the middle of the field to knot up the score. It was déjà vu in the bottom of the third inning, as Olson came up with her second RBI double of the game to score Lageyre.
Fayth Davis also captured an RBI single to score Olson to lengthen the Owls' lead in the inning, 4-2. The Owls tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, following an RBI bunt by
Carolyn Rosa to score
Danielle Bieberle and an RBI double by Lageyre to score
Madisyn Palmer and Rosa. UAB's Dylinn Stancil came up with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh, but that was all the Owls allowed, leading to a 7-3 victory.
