Game Notes:
Series History:
Series Record: 25-14 (FAU)
These two teams met for the first time on April 25, 2007, which coincided with FAU's first season in the Sun Belt Conference. The Owls won the first seven games against the Hilltoppers and have since maintained a healthy 25-14 record over the squad. FAU had a seven-game losing streak against WKU, which began in 2012, but the Owls have won the last three series against the Lady Toppers, with each of those being three-game sweeps.
Â
Last Time Out:
FAU's east division foe made the trip down to Boca Raton for the series last year with FAU coming up with the sweep.
Samantha Lageyre had six hits and six RBI,
Kara Lokeinsky pitched in relief in the second game to pick up her second career win and Olson delivered her second home run of the season in the series.
Â
Eyeing WKU:
The Hilltoppers finished last season 28-26 (10-13 in conference), which was fifth in the east division and eighth in C-USA. WKU was the eighth seed in the C-USA tournament and upset No. 5 seed Marshall 5-2, but was eliminated after a 6-1 loss to No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech. Three different Hilltoppers made the C-USA All-Freshman Team, which included Shelby Nunn (P), Maddie Bowlds (1B) and Jordan Thomas (OF/UT). The team capped off its third winning season under direction of Amy Tudor.
Â
This season, the Hilltoppers are 23-5 (6-0 in conference) and are winners of eight straight. WKU has yet to lose a conference series after sweeping its first two C-USA opponents in FIU and Charlotte. Four different Hilltoppers are batting above .300, which includes Shannon Plese (.369), Kendall Smith (.321), Paige Carter (.318) and Jordan Vobrink (.317). Thomas, Plese and Carter each delivered home runs against No. 17 Kentucky on Tuesday. Nunn (1.37 ERA) and Kelsey Aikey (1.91 ERA) have been dominating in the circle. In WKU's impressive 4-1 victory over the Wildcats, Aikey was credited with the win and Nunn took the save. They combined for a 1.00 ERA, five walks and five strikeouts.
Â
FAU vs. UAB:
FAU was unable to clinch its second consecutive C-USA series last weekend against UAB after a rough Saturday slate. In game one, FAU out-hit UAB, but fell to the Blazers, 5-3.
Mia Olson pitched a complete game and captured her seventh home run of the season and
Ashleigh Jennings had a career-high three hits, but that was all the Owls could manage. In game two, the Owls did not have much left in the tank offensively, capturing just three hits compared to UAB's 11.
Kelsey Morrison allowed just one earned run, but ultimately took the loss, 5-1. The Owls avoided the sweep and won Sunday's game, 7-3. FAU delivered a season-high 13 hits, with eight different Owls recording a hit in the game. Freshman
Skylar Whitty was in the circle for game three and tacked on her fifth win of the season.
