BOCA RATON, Fla. – One week into the outdoor season and Florida Atlantic University track team member
Natalliah Whyte is already adding to her awards again. Whyte has been named the Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, her third weekly honor of the year after winning twice during the indoor season.
Â
"As the saying goes, adversity does not only build character, it reveals it! As a coaching staff, we are very happy for Natalliah," said Head Coach
Alex Smolka. "She is putting tons of hard work and she was able to shake off her disappointment of the indoors season of not qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Nationals by running a 100m time which is currently ranked No. 1 in the world. The future looks bright."
Â
Whyte captured first place in the 100 meter dash at the Hurricane Invite with the current season's world's best time of 11.17. That mark surpassed the FAU record by 0.38 seconds and ranks first in the NCAA so far this season and first in the world in 2019.
Â
This achievement comes after a successful indoor season that saw the St. Catherine, Jamaica native win two gold medals at the C-USA Indoor Championship in the 60 meter and 200 meter after breaking school records all season long. She was also the highest individual points earner at the C-USA Championship and was later voted the Top Performer of the Meet on the track side. Â
Â
Whyte and the Owls will be back on the track this weekend with the UCF Knight Invite on Friday and Saturday in Orlando, Florida. Â
