BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University swimming & diving assistant coach
Alice McCall has been chosen as one of six recipients nationwide to receive the 2019 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America Jean Freeman Scholarship. The scholarship grants McCall the opportunity to attend the annual CSCAA Convention and Coaches Clinic with registration, transportation and lodging covered.
"I am extremely honored the CSCAA has awarded me this opportunity to go to their annual convention," said McCall. "As one of six recipients, I will go to the convention not only strongly representing myself and FAU, but also the CSCAA in appreciation of receiving this scholarship. It is always exciting to represent my school and program on the pool deck, but also a great opportunity to do this while gaining knowledge from some of the best in the world."
The SUMMIT (Summit for Empowering Women in Swimming), of which Freeman was the founding member of, was in charge of selecting the scholarship recipients. In order to apply, McCall had to submit a résumé and essay explaining her coaching philosophy and why she should be considered for the scholarship.
The CSCAA Convention will take place from May 5-8, and McCall will also be taking part in the coach academy. This year's convention is in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and coaches from various collegiate programs across the country will be in attendance.
"I hope to bring a lot of knowledge back to FAU and our program in particular," said McCall. "We have worked hard on our culture over the past few years and I hope this conference can enhance my knowledge further so that I can share what I have learned with our staff and student-athletes. In listening to experts from our field, there will be an extensive amount of information on all things physically, mentally and technologically that will be available to me during these four days."
FAU swimming & diving is coming off a historic season, with the men's team finishing as the runner-up at the 2019 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. Being able to attend the conference will give McCall the opportunity to be around some of the best in the business. As the team has already started to prepare for the 2019-20 season, they hope to continue to make further strides to bring a conference championship back to Boca Raton.
