BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Natalliah Whyte of the Florida Atlantic University track and field team has been named the Female Track Performer of the Meet for the 2019 Conference USA Indoor Championship. Whyte claimed first in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes in last weekend's Championship in Birmingham.
"We are very happy for Natalliah," said Head Coach
Alex Smolka. "Her daily hard work, dedication, attention to detail and good choices are certainly paying huge dividends. We are excited to see what the future has in store for her individually and our program as a whole. She is an awesome addition to our Owl family."
Whyte adds to her awards this indoor season with the honor after already winning Female High Scorer of the Meet, two gold medals and being named C-USA Track Athlete of the Week twice during the short indoor season. The St. Catherine, Jamaica native earned 20 points towards FAU's total in the meet last weekend with first place finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash.
In the 60-meter, Whyte ran to a 7.28 finish, beating her own school record that she had set previously in the season. She then competed in the 200-yard dash for the first time this season and won over last season's C-USA winner by 0.02 seconds to finish in 23.42.
Her 60-meter time of 7.28 currently ranks 17th in the nation, right outside the NCAA Qualifying cutoff. Individuals with the top 16 times will compete at the NCAA Championships, meaning Whyte is on the bubble for qualifying. Her 200-meter time is ranked 24th in the nation as well.  Â
