#20 Beach Volleyball Sweeps Webber International, #19 TCU to Open Season

BOCA RATON, Fla. - (Feb. 22, 2019) – The 20^th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team opened its season with sweeps over Webber International and No. 19 TCU at the Paradise at the Burrow Tournament on Friday.

Match 1 vs. Webber International
Kaila Dorish and Savannah Pesante swept on court four to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. Jillenne Cangelosi and Megan Mcgrath soon followed with a straight set win on court five to put FAU up 2-0. Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris picked up where they left off last season, with a 21-11, 21-10 victory at no. 2 to clinch the match. Amanda Silva and Nicole Grant posted at sweep of their own at no. 3, making the score 4-0. On court one, Carly Scarbrough and Nicole Navarro made FAU 10-for-10 in sets won in its season opener taking a 21-17, 21-13 decision.

Match 2 vs. #19 TCU
Pesante and Dorish drew first blood for the Owls with a straight set win at no. 4. McGrath and Cangelosi pushed FAU closer to a win with their 21-18, 21-11 victory on court five. Morris and Brok put the Owls in the win column, taking a 21-17, 21-14 outcome on court two. Scarbrough and Navarro outlasted TCU's top tandem 25-23 in the first set, lost 21-15 in the second, then rallied for a 15-10 triumph in the third. Grant and Silva took the third set by a matching 15-10 score to secure the sweep for the Owls. Ashlan Cunningham and Sam Gott overcame a first set loss to win in three sets on the exhibition court.
