#20 Beach Volleyball Hosts Paradise at the Burrow

BOCA RATON, Fla. -Â The 20th ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team will open its 2019 at home, hosting the Paradise at the Burrow tournament on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23.
The Owls will play Webber International at 8 a.m. and no. 19 TCU at noon on Friday, then face North Florida and Florida Southern on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Live stats and in-game updates for the FAU matches will also be available at twitter.com/FAUBEACHTeam. Â

ABOUT THE OWLS
- FAU returns seven starters from a year ago, led by the sophomore tandem of Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris, who went 25-7 as a team in 2018 and shared CCSA Freshman of the Year honors
- Head Coach Capri Grotowski returns for her fifth season at the helm of the Sandy Owls, looking for her third consecutive winning season and fourth overall
- Senior Amanda Silva was named to the CCSA Preseason Watch List
LAST SEASON
- FAU went 18-15 in 2018, finishing the year ranked 14th in the nation
- The Owls sent two teams out to the National Pairs Championship in Hermosa Beach, California, with Morris and Jessalyn Kinlaw advancing to the second day
- Carly Scarbrough was named to the CCSA All-Academic Team
SERIES HISTORY
- FAU has a combined 12-7 all-time record against the tournament field
- After dropping its first two meetings with Webber, FAU is currently on a six-match winning streak
- The Owls lead the series with TCU 2-1
- North Florida holds a narrow 4-3 lead in the all-time series with FAU, with the Owls defeating the Ospreys 3-2 last season
- FAU's only previous encounter with Florida Southern ended in a 5-0 FAU sweep
SCOUTING THE FIELD
- Webber International is the reigning, defending two-time Small College National Champion and is off to a 2-0 start under new head coach Jessica Gehrke-Hauptmann
- TCU finished the 2018 campaign with a 10-22 record, but did send Haven Hill and Cassie House to the National Pairs Championship
- UNF went 19-12 in 2018 and advanced to the Championship Match of the Atlantic Sun Tournament before losing to Stetson 3-1. Senior Chaney Howard was named to the A-Sun Preseason All-Conference Team
- Florida Southern recorded a 5-18 mark in its first season of competition
UP NEXT
- FAU will host another tournament, the Burrow Beach Bash, on March 1 and 2. South Carolina, LSU, UAB and Florida State will make up the rest of the field
