Bekisoglu is Third Owl to Win C-USA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the third time in the six weeks so far this spring, Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors has been bestowed to a Florida Atlantic University Owl. Freshman Kirac Bekisoglu was honored on Wednesday for his efforts in leading the Owls to a 3-0 mark in their first home matches of the spring, as announced by the league office.
Bekisoglu went undefeated in all of his completed matches in the weekend sweep. In Saturday's first match, against DePaul, he teamed with Thomas Guy at No. 2 doubles to win 6-4, and posted a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles as well (6-3, 6-1). In the Owls' second match, against Tennessee Tech, he and Guy again combined for a 6-4 victory, this time clinching the doubles point. Then he recorded a three-set win at No. 2 in singles (6-2, 5-7, 6-3).
Finally, on Sunday vs. Stetson, he put the cherry on top of the weekend, with a 6-2, 6-0 singles win at No. 2 for the deciding point in a 4-0 shutout of the Hatters. The first-year native of Bursa, Turkey has posted seven singles wins in dual matches this spring, including five at No. 2. Additionally, he has six more doubles wins, and he and Guy are 2-0 as a combination, also at the No. 2 spot.
The 8-5 Owls head out on the road for three matches in three days, beginning on Sunday in Mobile. That morning, at 10 a.m., the squad takes on South Alabama, followed by battles with Georgia Monday and Georgia State Tuesday. Two weekends after, March 9, is a return home to the FAU Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all home matches, of which six remain in coming weeks.
