Â
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team officially opens its season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Flagler. The Owls return eight players from last year's squad that finished 17-16. It was FAU's first winning record in eight seasons and the Owls made just the third postseason appearance in school history, earning a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).
Â
The team will be wearing their new red jerseys for the game. Tuesday's contest will also be "Taco Tuesday", as there will be a taco stand in the lobby. The first 100 FAU students will receive free tacos.
Â
Jailyn Ingram and Jaylen Sebree are both expected to make their return to the hardwood after missing most of last season due to injury. Ingram was named to the preseason all-conference team despite playing in only 10 games. The Owls will also welcome six newcomers to the squad, including grad transfer Cornelius Taylor, from Division II powerhouse Lincoln Memorial. Â
Â
Last Time Out: FAU defeated crosstown foe Lynn 92-75 in an exhibition on Friday, Oct. 25. Junior guard Richardson Maitre led the Owls with 15 points, one of five FAU players in double digits, in the victory.
Â
History: Tuesday's meeting will be the third between the two schools. The first two took place within two weeks of each other over 30 years ago. The Owls lost in St. Augustine on Feb. 4, 1989, but got their revenge in the rematch, winning 105-80 on Feb. 17 in Boca Raton.
Â
Coverage: Live stats and video of the match will be available at FAUSports.com. In-game updates for the FAU matches will be available at Twitter.com/FAU_Hoops. Fans can purchase tickets for Tuesday's game here.
Â
Upcoming: The Owls face back-to-back Power 5 opponents, traveling to Miami on Friday, Nov. 8 then heading to Alabama to play the Crimson Tide on Monday, Nov. 11. Â
