BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams will take on the 2019 NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championships Friday morning. Florida State is the host of the South Regionals for the second consecutive year, with the race being held at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

The morning of races will kick off with the women's 6K at 8:30 a.m. (course map here) with the men following in the 10K (course map here) at 9:30 a.m. More information on the championships can be found here.

2018 NCAA South Regionals Recap
Regionals took place at Apalachee Regional Park last season with the men racing to 23rd place and the women to 27th. On the men's side, Lachlan Shiver was the first Owl returner to cross the line in the 10K with a time of 35:39.8. The top returner in the men's category is Farah Abdulkarim from Ole Miss, who finished in third for a time of 31:18.6. Mikaela Jonsson was the top runner on the women's side for the Owls, claiming a personal best time of 23:29.9 in the 6K. Florida's Jessica Pascoe is the top returner in the women's pool, after capturing second place with a time of 20:23.6.

Last Time Out
The men's and women's team are coming off the 2019 Conference USA Championships, which took place at a challenging course in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Madlen Kappeler led the way on the women's side. With the freshman's time of 17:50.9, Kappeler captured 16th place, a new personal record and C-USA Third Team honors to become the first Owl to make All-Conference since 2013. Megan Giovaniello was the next Owl to cross the line at 57th place (19:06.6) with Jordan Stevens (19:11.2) and Lauren Macon (19:16.8) following with new personal records. Morgan Sharp also accomplished a new PR in Bowling Green (19:25.48).

On the men's side, Lachlan Shiver led the pack with an 8K time of 25:40.9 for 34th place. His finish marked the best for the men's program since the Owls joined C-USA in 2013, as well as the fourth fastest time in program history. Preston Dunn was the next FAU finisher at 49th place (26.20.1) and the 10th fastest time in school history. Rory Carmody (28:47.82) and Nolan Meuret (28:15.39) captured personal best times on a challenging course.
