BOCA RATON, Fla. –Â
Rateb Hussein and
Logan Downey of the Florida Atlantic University swimming & diving team have been acknowledged as the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league Tuesday. This is the second honor of its kind for Hussein and the ninth in Downey's career.
Â
Hussein captured three first-place finishes and a school record on Friday against Indian River State, who are coming off a NJCAA National Championship. The freshman recorded individual wins, both firsts in his young collegiate career, in the 100 butterfly (49.66) and 200 butterfly (1:49.50). His time in the 200 fly also became a new personal record. In the 200 medley relay, Hussein's team of
Andrew Garcia,
Kyle Douglas and
Carter Januzelli broke a three-year FAU Freshman record, as well.
Â
Downey tallied two second-place finishes on the 1-and 3-meter board on Friday. The junior came away with a season-best score in the 3-meter (250.12) and finished just behind the reigning NJCAA National Champion in both events. Downey's ninth CCSA Diver of the Week award becomes a school record, surpassing
Ryan McIntire, his coach and former FAU diver, who previously tallied eight Player of the Week awards.
Hussein became the first two-time CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week this season, while the Owls have taken all Diver of the Week awards this year.
Â
FAU men's and women's swimming & diving will be back at FAU Aquatic Center to face Princeton on Friday at 3:30 p.m. This will serve as FAU's Paradise Meet, where FAU cups will be passed out to the first fans in attendance.
