RUSTON, La. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (4-17, 1-7 C-USA) dropped a 86-55 decision to Louisiana Tech (11-11, 3-6 C-USA) on Thursday night at Thomas Assembly Center.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- The Owls scored the first four points of the game, but LA Tech responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead. After a pair of free throws from Amber Gaston, Myka Johnson Matthews gave FAU the lead once again with a layup. The lead changed two more times with baskets being traded by the two teams, but the Lady Techsters closed out the quarter outscoring the Owls, 12-5
- Johnson Matthews scored first in the second quarter, but once again LA Tech went on a run, this time scoring 10-straight points. Six of those 10 points were free throws. From there, the Owls outscored LA Tech, 8-6
- After going back-and-forth to start the third quarter, the Lady Techsters outscored FAU, 18-4, in just under five minutes midway through the period to push their lead to 29 points. From there, LA Tech ran away with it, outscoring the Owls 21-14 in the final period
GAME NOTES
- The Owls were led by Johnson Matthews with 14 points. It was her ninth double-digit game of the season. She also had three steals, two rebounds and an assist on the night
- Danneal Ford was the second-leading scorer for FAU with nine points. She also had three rebounds and two assists. Her two assists bring her within five of FAU's top-10 all-time career assists list
- Juliette Gauthier and Jamaria Williams each had eight points in the game. Gauthier was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and Williams had a team-leading three assists
- Ra'Kyra Gabriel led on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds. She also had three blocks in the contest in only 12 minutes after getting into foul trouble early in the game. She now sits six rebounds away from entering the top-10 career rebounders at FAU and is one block away from moving into eighth place on the career blocking list
- The rebounding effort was pretty even between the two teams, with LA Tech get a one-board advantage (38-37)
- Eight of the nine Owls who saw action, scored in the game
- Between the two teams, 50 fouls were called in the game
- The Lady Techsters shot a blistering 46.8 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range
