Women’s Basketball Inks Transfer Guard Skyla Tuthill

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women's basketball Head Coach LeAnn Freeland added another key piece to the 2026-27 roster on Thursday, announcing the addition of redshirt freshman guard Skyla Tuthill.
Tuthill, a native of Summerville, S.C., arrives in Paradise following her freshman season at Rice.
"Skyla is a very skilled, versatile guard who was highly recruited out of high school, where she amassed over 2,000 career points," expressed Coach Freeland. "As a redshirt freshman at Rice, she had the opportunity to win a regular-season conference title, so she saw firsthand what it takes to win in the American Conference. She has tremendous range from three and a skillset that enables her to push the tempo in transition and create for her teammates. Her tremendous work ethic, growth mindset, and high basketball IQ make her a perfect fit for our system. Skyla has an infectious spirit that positively impacts those around her and sets very high expectations for herself daily on the court and in the classroom. Our coaching staff and players are excited to announce Skyla Tuthill is an Owl."
Tuthill arrives in Boca Raton after spending her freshman season at Rice. Tuthill won the American Conference regular-season championship with the Owls and utilized her redshirt season in 2025-26.
Prior to joining the Rice Owls, Tuthill was a letterwinner from Ashley Ridge High School. A prolific scorer, Tuthill eclipsed 2,000 career points during her prep career. As a senior, Tuthill helped lead the Swamp Foxes to a 27-1 record, advancing to the Class 5A Division I quarterfinals, earning South Carolina HS 5A Player of the Year and South Carolina High School Girls Basketball MaxPreps Player of the Year honors. She averaged 21.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.6 steals per game during her senior season. Tuthill also garnered 5A All-Region honors, in addition to being named an NC vs. SC All-Star and earning Post & Courier Female Athlete of the Year and Friday Night Light Player of the Year recognition. Academically, Tuthill was recognized as a Scholar Athlete award winner, a Beta Club member, and an honor roll honoree.
In addition to her high school career, Tuthill also competed at the club level with Team Curry and Southeast All Stars.
