Baseball Falls in Ninth to Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman scored four times with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to deal Florida Atlantic University baseball a stunning loss on Tuesday night, 7-6 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Turning Point
The Owls trailed 3-2, but tied it in the sixth (on a leadoff triple by David Miranda and run-scoring single by Pedro Pages) before going ahead on a Tyler Frank home run in the seventh. They added two more for cushion in the top of the ninth, with Miranda doubling in one and scoring on a wild pitch for the other.
The Finish
With just one on and two outs, the Wildcats got a double and walk to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth. A single up the middle scored two, and an infield single with an error tied the game. On an 0-1 pitch with runners at second and third, Jordan Stacy won it with a walkoff single to complete a four-run inning.
The Bats
- The Owls rapped out a season-high 15 hits
- Frank and Miranda each had three (and both scored two runs), Pages, Joe Montes and Diamond Johnson added two hits each
- Frank's hitting streak is now at 20 games, Miranda's is at eight, and the duo is hitting .333 and .319, respectively. Pages is at .327 and Montes .324
The Arms
- Mike Ruff struck out six in three innings in the first start of his career, allowing only one run on two hits
- Matt Harris had a fantastic relief outing, his longest as an Owl, of 3 1/3 innings, also with only one run scoring, and with four strikeouts
- Drew Peden pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings
- Zach Schneider took his first loss at FAU, dropping to 2-1
What's Next
The Owls return to Conference USA play over the weekend, beginning Friday in Charleston, West Virginia, against Marshall. The first night's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park. FAU returns home a week from that night, April 13, hosting Charlotte.
