FAIRFAX, Va.  – Florida Atlantic University swimming and diving kicked off day one of three at the Patriot Invitational Thursday at Jim McKay Natatorium. After one day of competition, the Owl women are sitting in third with a score of 204, while the men are currently in fourth with 171 points. The Owls did not shy away from bringing the Florida heat to snowy Virginia, combining for five first-place finishes, two second-place titles and three third-place times. Twelve different Owls set personal-best times in the preliminary and final rounds.

"We had a great start of the meet on both sides for both our men and women swimmers and divers, said head coach Lara Preacco. "If we continue having that focus for the next two days, we will have a successful mid-season meet."

The Owls will take on day two of the Patriot Invitational tomorrow, Nov. 16. Women
- Spence Atkins claimed the first individual finals win for the Owls, and that came in the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.35) with Natalie Clausen following in second (4:54.33)
- Danica Garbett delivered her fastest time in the 200-yard IM finals, touching the wall first with a time of 2:03.15
- Fatimah Westbrook claimed another top individual finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.59) with third place
- Malvina Catalano came up with her first individual win of the season, which came in the 3-meter dive (265.80), where Kaleigh Dundov captured fifth (221.80)
- The Owl women finished things up in the pool with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with Westbrook, Atkins, Abby Marshall and Kelsey Witkay finishing with a time of 3:48.53
- Josh Fountain captured a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle finals (4:29.80) and Will Smith followed in third (4:32.70)
- In the 200 IM finals, Calvin Lillo touched the wall ninth (1:52.58), while Alex Taber came in 12th (1:53.99)
- In the 1-meter finals, Logan Downey scored his way to a first-place title (319.70) with Wiley Schmidt coming right behind him in second (296.05)
