BOCA RATON, Fla. –The Florida Atlantic University women's swimming and diving team has completed a clean sweep for the Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, as announced by the league on Wednesday. Junior Danica Garbett was tabbed as Women's Swimmer of the Week, while freshman Kaleigh Dundov claimed the Women's Diver of the Week title. This is the first time both athletes have captured this award.
Â
FAU squared off in a dual meet against Indian River State College last Friday at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex in Fort Pierce, Florida. The Owl women's 181-119 victory over the Pioneers was led by top finishes and scores from Garbett and Dundov.
Â
Garbett finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (57.93) and 200-yard IM (2:08.05) and second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.63). She was also part of the women's second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (58.44 split). The Ontario, Canada, native received season-best times in the 200 IM, which she improved by almost three seconds, as well as in the 200 fly. Each meet, the junior continues to knock off full seconds on her times to consistently finish at the top for the Owls.
Â
In just the second meet of her collegiate career, Dundov led the way for the dive team. The Coral Springs, Florida, native recorded her first collegiate win in the 1-meter dive (233.69) and finished second in the 3-meters (215.40). Her 1-meter dive became a season-best score and was enough to tally a victory in the event by nearly 22 points.
Â
FAU swimming and diving will be hosting Florida Gulf Coast University, Princeton University and Boston College this Friday at 3:30 p.m. at FAU Aquatics Center. The men and women will both head to Coral Gables, Florida, on Saturday to face the University of Miami and Boston College at 9:30 a.m. at the Whitten University Center Swimming Pool.
