STATESBORO, Ga. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (2-6-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) dropped a 3-1 decision to Georgia Southern (4-4-1) on Tuesday night.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- The Owls had chances early. In the 10th minute, Jean Paul Rafols launched a shot that was deflected out to Gonzalo Pena Barrasus. Pena shot the ball towards the net, but the Eagles keeper made the save.
- Georgia Southern took a 3-0 lead in the 78th minute after scoring two first half goals.
- In the 83rd minute, FAU stopped the shutout. It was Rafols and Pena again, this time the play equaled a score. Rafols headed a ball in the direction of Pena for a one-touch strike that found the back of the net.
GAME NOTES
- Pena's late goal was the second of the season for the junior. He now leads the team with four points.
- It was the first assist of the season for Rafols. He now has three points on the year with a goal and an assist.
- Hagay Jalon and Luis Aranzazu split time in-goal for the Owls. Jalon started the game and Aranzazu came in as relief to start the second half. Jalon had three saves and Aranzazu stopped two shots.
- Alvaro Rodriguez made opportunities for himself, registering four shots on the night.
UP NEXT FOR THE OWLS
FAU will continue road play with a Saturday night match at Conference USA opponent Old Dominion. That match is set for 7 p.m.
