BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team heads west for Conference USA weekend play beginning Friday night, taking their longest trip of the regular season to face UTSA in San Antonio.
The Owls (24-11-1, 11-4 C-USA) are in second place in the league standings, four games ahead of UTSA (18-17, 7-8 C-USA), currently tied for sixth. The Roadrunners had two of three games taken from them last weekend by FIU, but rebounded with a 16-0 rout of Incarnate Word in non-conference play Tuesday. FAU is going for their sixth straight C-USA series win, and will attempt to do so with the following pitching matchups:
UTSA is the second-best hitting team in C-USA at .303, with eight regulars hitting .282 or better. Of those that qualify, Tony Beam ranks fifth in the league (.355). Bryan Arias is ninth in average (.347) and fifth in home runs (nine), one less in the latter category than Jesse Baker, whose 10 homers slots him fourth.
These two squads have met for three-game sets each of the last three years, including an FAU sweep in Boca Raton last season. The Owls have won the last four in the series and hold a 6-3 advantage.
Home conference play resumes for FAU next weekend vs. FIU, following a Tuesday night midweek matchup vs. FGCU. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/fau/EN/link/buy/browse?i%5B0%5D=251.
