Boca Raton, Fla. -
Swimming and diving's Sharon Kok and men's basketball's Justin Massey take the Florida Atlantic University Player of the Week titles after putting up team-best performances during competition last week.
Kok claimed the Owls' first win in the meet against Old Dominion last Monday as she took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.06). That notches four wins for her in the 200 free this season. The freshman also took first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.96), which is her third victory of the year in that event. To cap off the meet, Kok swam the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (24.70 split), which earned second place (1:40.19). The freshman was the Owls' only dual winner in the meet.
Massey has resumed his FAU career in a big way, scoring in double figures in four of his first six games back in Boca Raton after transferring from Brown. Last week, he led the Owls in scoring with 16 points against Marshall on Monday night, and then followed that up with a 12-point performance in a win over rival FIU. The win snapped what had been an eight game Conference USA losing streak for the Owls and a six-game losing streak to the Panthers. For the week, the redshirt sophomore averaged 14 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and one assist each game. He is tied for second on the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game.
Men's basketball will head to Texas this week to face two conference opponents beginning with UTSA at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 followed by UTEP on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 9 p.m. Swimming and diving will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 27 when the women take on Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida at 4 p.m.
